AUS Football Preview: 1 Statement & 1 Question For Every AUS Football Team 💭

Monday was the OUA. Yesterday was the Canada West. Today is the AUS.

With the season kicking off this weekend, we all know this conference has been under the control of that blue team from Antigonish for the last three seasons.

But, could the tides begin to turn in the East in 2024?

Here’s one statement along with one question for every AUS football team as they enter the 2024 season.

1. Acadia Axemen

Statement: Acadia and McMaster are so similar.

Both were at the top of the U SPORTS world prior to the pandemic as conference champions with promising futures that signified years of dominance over their adversaries.

Now, both are rebuilding programs that are essentially struggling just to find their footing.

Hard to pinpoint what happened.

Questions: Seems like we’re asking the same question as last year - what will it take for Acadia to be a competitive program again?

2. Bishop’s Gaiters

Statement: Bishop’s has been knocking on StFX’s door for years. It’s giving LeBron and Raptors at this point.

Question: It’s a given that Bishop’s will a Loney Bowl contender. But, what will it take for Bishop’s to finally beat StFX?

3. Mount Allison Mounties

Statement: Sorry, this needs to be acknowledged.

So proud of Mount Allison for how they’ve upped their on-field appearance over the last few seasons.

This program went from donning outdated, baggy uniforms - that felt like they were almost 20 years old - to having arguably three of the cleanest uniforms in the country, and even revamping their helmet decals.

We all love to see a well done glow-up.

Question: Mount Allison defeated StFX in the preseason.

Do we view that as a sign that they could be a threat in the AUS?

Or, was it just another preseason game?

4. SMU Huskies

Statement: Similarly to Acadia, SMU is going through it right now.

Question: Can this program do better than 2-6

5. StFX X-Men

Statement: This could very well be their last chance. We know it, and so do they.

Question: Can StFX win an unprecedented 4th consecutive conference championship?

And if so, can they find a way to finally be the first AUS team since 2007 to push through to a Vanier Cup?
